The family and friends of Kevoun Williams, a 20 year-old fisherman of Rock Top in Hopewell Hanover who has been missing since Sunday, January 15, are calling on the Sandy Bay police to speed up their investigations into his disappearance.
Williams left his home to go fishing by boat with two other youths in the community but never came back.
When contacted, the police indicated that they were aware of the incident and they were provided with a photo of the missing man by family members but so far, their investigations are incomplete as they are receiving conflicting stories from the men with whom he was last seen.
When this writer visited the home of the missing man in Rock Top the family members were grieving, but Romeo Williams, a brother explained what transpired. According to Romeo, his family is from Olive River in Trelawny and some five months ago, Kevoun came to Hopewell to live with him.
Since then, he had made friends with two young fishermen who reside in close proximity to his house and who would come to the house and call Kevoun each morning to accompany them on deep sea fishing by boat. Romeo said that on the morning in question, one of the men came as usual and called Kevoun out of the house about 6 a.m., and they both left for a section of the Hopewell beach where they often set sail.
He further indicated that his brother did not return that day or the following day and he also found it strange that the fisherman who would frequent the house every morning, never came back. He immediately contacted him but to his surprise he was told by the fisherman that on the morning of January 15, when he along with Williams got to the beach the missing man instructed him that he was no longer interested in going out to sea so he along with his brother, who is the third fisherman, set sail and left Kevoun sitting on the beach.
Romeo also pointed out that when contacted, the brother of the fisherman gave a totally different story. He reportedly said that when they reached the beach, they saw a parked 110 Toyota Corolla motorcar and one of the men in the vehicle called out to Kevoun who got in the car and never returned.
The Sandy Bay police also pointed out that they are aware of the conflicting story being given by the fishermen but they are at present still carrying out a full investigation before they act.
Meanwhile, the concerned family is demanding a more swift response from the police and are asking members of the public with any information that could lead to the whereabouts of the missing man to contact 1876 463-3887, 1876 413-3085 or the Sandy Bay police at 1876 953-5312.
Kevoun Williams is light complexion, sports a wave height hair cut, pierced ears, about 5ft 5ins tall and has a tattoo of his name on his left foot and two other tattoos on his left thumb and left hand.
