For us in Jamaica, the unemployment rate is approximately 16.8% (source: 2011 Statistical Institute of Jamaica – Statin- last updated August 31, 2011). We can further extrapolate from that statistic, with reference to our second city Montego Bay, that approximately 24,000 able bodied persons are out of work in St. James.
